Q&A with Coach Singleton

What made you want to
become a high school coach?

I have always played sports growing up, and some of the most influential men in my life were my youth coaches, high school coaches and college coaches. I wanted to be that to the young men trying to play the game they love. Giving back to the next generation of young men chasing their dreams and being a mentor and a positive influence in their lives.

What would you say is
your coaching style or philosophy?

Coaching is teaching, and as an educator, I have the responsibility to help young student-athletes to expand and mature. As a coach, I have the opportunity to try and make a difference in the lives of tomorrow's leaders. There are five major objectives in which coaches should want student-athletes to embrace and make part of their lives; communication, respect, dedication, hard work and team work. The primary goal on a daily basis is to get the players to assume responsibility for success as well as failure. "You are either getting better or worse. You can never stay the same." I want players to leave their LEGACIES, so the future MUSTANGS have great examples to follow.

What are your
expectations for every player?

To come to Roosevelt and be the best you can be. In the classroom, school and on the basketball court. Have pride in yourself, school and team. Come ready to compete every day and push yourself to be the best version of themselves. Leave a LEGACY that others want to emulate and surpass.
